QT should definetly consider becoming and independent filmmaker and stop working with producers like the weinsteins who only try to squeze another dollar out of the QT brand.(like the example above clearly indicates)

I'm sure that this is a big disappointment for QT and RR. They wanted to bring the Grindhouse back and now the producer splits the project, that sucks.

I'm sure Quentin and Robert are feeling disappointed for the box office failure of "Grindhouse", but since they are both completely sensible human beings, they both must know that the films will do much better on their own, at least in terms of box office revenue. Quentin has said many times before that he wants his movies to make money for the people funding them. That is a major concern for him at this juncture. Sure, his inner fanboy is completely crushed over the idea that not everyone was as hyped as he was with the idea of a double feature, but at the same time, he has been pushing for "Death Proof" and "Planet Terror" to have individual identities outside of this particular exhibition. That's why he's prepping "Death Proof" for the Cannes Film Festival right now. When people think of Quentin's fifth film (counting both "Kill Bill" movies as one), he doesn't want them to think of "Grindhouse". He wants them to think of "Death Proof".
So all this nonsense talk about Harvey Weinstien being this evil guy destroying Quentin and Robert's art is bullshit. Harvey has to be concerned about the box office or he isn't doing his job. Like I said before, both Quentin and Robert are very sensible guys. They know what has to happen, no matter how disappointed they are that most of mainstream America didn't want to partake in three hours of exploitation cinema.
Having said all that, let me say on the record that I loved "Grindhouse", and I hope that no matter what happens, that the original scratchy, faux-trailer-filled, 70's advertisement-riddled, glorious presentation of this magnum opus be preserved forever on some DVD release in the future. I am one of Quentin's fellow film geeks, and "Grindhouse" was the most fun I have ever had at a movie theatre. Period.

Hey guys i´m the newbie
i didnt see GH yet coz i live in croatia, but i know i´m gonna love it...i think u now what i mean.
but look. the box office numbers SUCK theyre horrible. and if they dont change after the next weekend, i think its a pretty good idea to split the movies. i dont think weinstein wants to squeeze the last dollar out of grindhouse, he just wants to save himself. and if this is good for qt and rr i dont have anything against splitting it into two seperate films.

At least everyone will have the chance to see the project "Grindhouse" as it was planned. Later on DVD I will make use of the split of these movies to enjoy them seperately. I think both will bear enough stuff to talk and to think about so that both deserve special attention. Not that you think I support the idea of splitting the project as it was originally planned, but you know... there are pros and cons which have to be considered.

well, at first i was surprised by the rather bad box office results too. but at a second glance, what surprises me most are the unholy high expectations of weinstein (and q+r)! this is not a disney family road sweeper nor a micheal bay mainstream blockbuster, for heaven's sake! it's a grindhouse movie and how the hell could they expect all the dumb superficial moviegoers out there picking up something they don't even know a shit about?! i mean, grindhouse is all about b, c and even d-movies that the mass would never even lose a word about. so what the hell was riding them into thinking, everybody on this world would jump into the next movie theatre when this comes out?!
it surley is a gift to all us movie aficionandos and for that i put q+r in my book of cool people, but how many of us geeks are even out there? maybe 3 % of the average moviegoers, if even...
it's great they pulled it through, though. and i'm sure they will be well revarded financialy with international releases and the dvd's to come out at last. but to think they would get the big mob on their side with an utterly independent project like grindhouse is just kind of ridiculous, if you ask me.
still i'm loving the project nevertheless, that is.

I think it was on imdb.com where I read how many people were complaining about the early walkouts. Many of the moviegoers actually didn't know about grindhouse consisting of 2 flicks. Did you experience something like that during your grindhouse visits, gold watch?

This is a truly tragic chapter in the movie business.
A big f-u to the international community from the movie industry. Weinstein thinks I'm not qualified to watch a double feature, because we don't have that tradition in my country. Well if I'm not mistaken, no-one has that tradition anymore. Which was the whole point of the movie. To bring it back. Now I just don't know what to do. My immidiate thought was to download the proper version and boycott the movies, but I also want to support QT and RR, so It poses quite a dilemma. I am 100% certain I will buy this movie on DVD asap, but I really want to do something to show my opinion on this matter.
Anyone have some good ideas on how to protest this action but not hurt the directors?

If you've seen the trailers or read anything about the movie I don't see how someone could NOT know that it was a double-feature. No one walked out of the screening that I was at after the first film, BUT the theater wasn't full and I'm pretty sure the other people there were QT/Rodriguez/movie geeks so they knew what it was all about.
As for splitting the two movies, if it makes more money for Quentin and Robert then I'm all for it but it obviously will take away from the whole grindhouse atmosphere/purpose of the movies as it was intended to be. The running time didn't seem that long to me, but I was so in to it I guess I didn't notice, but I could see how mainstream viewers might think it's a little long.
