Stuntman Mike's car features the "Rubber Duck" hood ornament from the 70's Sam Peckinpah trucker film Convoy.
A character wears a shirt featuring Tura Santana's character from "Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" with the words BADASS CINEMA underneath it. Another girl wears a VIPER shirt, reference to The Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (or DiVAs) in Kill Bill.
Stuntman Mike's car is black with a skull and crossbones on it. the same logo is used by a rockband called "Death by Stereo".
you could say, the paintjob of the yellow mustang is "borrowed" from the car in the motion picture "high tension", otherwise this yellow color with black stripes we also see in kill bill before.
know more? post it!

As posted on the other board:
Stuntman Mike's black nova has the same number plate as Mcqueens Mustang in "Bullitt": JJZ 109.

the nipples of the "wife and daughter" in machete's fake trailer can be clearly seen (yay!) in the theatre version, unlike as in the previous advertising trailer.

The "I want his balls" scene in Planet Terror could be a reference to Foxy Brown.
When Bruce Willis face is growing and growing could be a reference to "Big trouble in litte China"

el wray's truck resembles the peterbilt 281 in spielberg's classic "duel", in particulary in the scene where el wray drives the truck up front to the camera to stop at j.t.'s barbecue house.

The town is called el rey (as far as i know). Don't know if it's intentional though.

It is El Rey, but the pronounciation of El Rey and El Wray ist pretty similar, so I think it's kind of an homage to their former project FDTD.

check aut the fangoria article about project terror in the magazine scanns thread:
Quote: | Robert Rodriguez:
He (Freddy Rodriguez) is the most bad-ass character in the script, and ist later refferd to as "El Wray".
Fangoria:
Any refference to "El Rey", Seth Gecko's destination at the end of Dusk Till Dawn?
Robert Rodriguez:
Well, rey just means 'king', so for Freddy's character, he's just the man! |
well, that sums pretty much up, what you already said.

jonathan loughran, the trucker in KB (left in the picture) who paid 75 dollars to have a go with the comatose bride, plays a verry similiar role in death proof as the hillbilly farmer jaspser. not only has he the same stupid laugh again, but the prospect of "sexual pleasures" too...
