I agree, he's a great actor. I like him in Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, Cast Away, Philadelphia... there are so much great films.
He also will play in "Illuminati" at next. Also a Dan Brown book.

Well, Hanks has his roles, though he isn't my favorite actor. Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, Saving Private Ryan, Philadelphia, Apollo 13, The 'Burbs, Big... - all unthinkable without his acting.

I don't like Hanks very much, either. Of course he had some good roles but if I look at him I always see Tom Hanks. This might sound strange but for example a Pacino or DeNiro they fit perfectly in their roles.
DeNiro in Raging Bull is just perfect, you consider him as a boxer. He looks like a boxer, trains like a boxer and later he is fat like the real person. But you never look at him like "oh ok thats just DeNiro playing himself", and this is the feeling I always have with Hanks movies.
I always look at him thinking "ah ok he is just playing it in his typical Hanks style".

And that's what makes him just a good actor imo, not more. Some of his roles are unforgettable, but basically just because he fits that good in this kind of roles.

it's always nice to watch a tom hanks movie but as mickeyknox already mentioned I always see tom hanks acting and not his character in the movie. Unlike some other actors (e.g. deNiro, pacino, depp) whose acting is that good that I forget that they are actors when I watch a moviel
only exception is of course Forrest Gump which is just great in every sense

Can't wait for that one! "Angels and Demons" is a great book!
Not a huge Hanks fan, but I did like him in Forrest Gump and as Robert Langdon in The Da Vinci Code.

I'm not keen on him, but in few pearls he acted.
Pearls such as Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, Catch me if you can, Green Mile...
